Reigning European champions Real Madrid reached their third successive Champions League semi-final at the expense of last season's runners-up Bayern Munich, who were left aggrieved by some awful officiating.
Madrid won 4-2 on penalties following a 2-2 aggregate draw after extra time in the second leg of their quarter-final tie at the Allianz Arena on Tuesday.
Robert Lewandowski had given Bayern a 2-1 lead on the night after Sergio Ramos had cancelled out his early opener, but Cristiano Ronaldo lashed in a stunning equalizer four minutes from time to send the match into extra time.
Neither side could find a winner in the additional 30 minutes, while Bayern had Arturo Vidal sent off in the 84th minute, and the match went to a penalty shootout.
Arturo Vidal was sent off for Bayern in the closing stages of extra time before Cristiano Ronaldo levelled the tie on aggregate.
Madrid's Karim Benzema and Juan Bernat missed the first two spot-kicks, but Ronaldo levelled the shootout and Bayern's Thomas Muller failed to convert his penalty, allowing Sergio Ramos to win it for the Spanish side.
Real Madrid will face either Monaco or Borussia Dortmund in the semi-finals, while Bayern's season is over.
